Three crewmembers of HMCS Winnipeg detained by Japanese authorities

On February 1, 2016, three members of HMCS Winnipeg’s ship’s company were detained by Japanese authorities while the ship was conducting a port visit in Tokyo, Japan. According to media reports [See CTV News: "Sailors arrested on drug charges in Japan identified and Naval Today -] two individuals were charged with the use of a controlled substance by the Tokyo Police. The third Canadian was taken into custody but was subsequently released.

HMCS Winnipeg is a frigate with a crew of about 225 personnel from Canadian Forces Base Esquimault, British Columbia.
